The motor car insurance market as it stands currently is awash with online comparison sites – but how do you know which one is the best choice for your needs?
Odds are that if you’re shopping around for cheap car insurance, you can’t go more than a few moments online without running into several different car insurance comparison sites all claiming to be your best source for cheap quotes – it kind of feels like you’re comparing apples to oranges sometimes. However, it can be confusing to say the least in finding which one truly is the best one out there, but there are several things to keep in mind if you’re looking for the best and cheapest car insurance quotes you can find.
Remember – cheaper isn’t always better
Any comparison site out there can find you some cut-rate cover, if that’s what you’re looking for, but be forewarned: just because you’ve found the least expensive price quote doesn’t mean that you’ve found the best one for your needs. In fact, many ‘comprehensive’ policies offered by car insurance companies through comparison sites may indeed be much less expensive than their rivals, but the way they accomplish these attractive premium prices is to pare back cover that several of their competitors may include.
The fact of the matter is that no two comprehensive policies are alike, as one may offer valuable add-ons and bonuses that you may need. If you feel you’re going to need something like breakdown cover or have car hire included in your policy, you need to select an insurer that will offer you these benefits inclusive of your policy – not having them when you need them can lead to a serious expenditure of cash that you may not be able to afford, leading to a false economy if you went with the lower price ‘comprehensive’ provider.
Meet the new boss – same as the old boss
Furthermore, there may be quite a bit of overlap when it comes to insurance comparison websites. This is because comparison sites forge partnerships with a wide array of insurers to add to their panel, and many of these insurers will strike deals with a myriad of comparison sites in order to ensure they are considered by prospective new customers whenever a comparison site is used to run a search.
However, there is no one comparison site with an exhaustive panel of insurers, which means that in order to get the widest variety of quotes you’re going to have to frequent more than one. Not only that, but many of the larger, most successful car insurance companies decline to ever join any comparison site’s panel of insurers, which means that even if you turn over every proverbial rock littering the massive fields of the internet, you’re never going to encounter every single possible insurer.
Instead, you may need to include these larger insurers in your quest for cheap car insurance the old-fashioned way: by going to their website directly. Sometimes, you might even need to ring them up or speak to a car insurance broker; it’s the only way to ensure that you’ll absolutely exhaust all your options when it comes to finding the best insurance cover for you that fits your motoring needs and habits.
