Today’s post comes from a good place. It stems from a need for education, actually.
Did you know there are quite a few lesser-known driving rules that you can be caught out by? Some may cause you to pay a fine. Others may result in points on your licence.
So, we thought we’d be nice and give you a refresher session.
Keep ‘em clean, so they’re seen
Number plates. We have to keep ‘em clean, folks. If an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera can’t read your plate number, you could face a fine of up to £1,000.
Keep up with the washing up
Failure of maintaining the washer and wiper installation could result in an empty washer bottle. The consequence is a fixed penalty fine.
Don’t splash and dash
As tempting as it is, don’t be that person and splash a pedestrian when driving by. In fact, depending on the severity of it, you could end up having to pay between £100 to £5,000.
Keep your hands to yourself (or on the wheel)
If you’re caught handling (or even touching) your satnav or phone whilst driving, you could end up with 6 points on your licence, or have to pay £200.
Don’t be a flasher
Avoid a £1,000 fine (or even a month in prison!) by not flashing your headlights to alert other motorists of a speed trap.
When being a slow coach could cost you
Yes, it is possible to drive too slowly! Especially in areas that have minimum speed requirements. Or, that’ll be 3 points on your licence and £100, thank you very much.
Don’t eat and drive
If you’re facing a mad dash between workplaces, or you’re running late, it’s best not to avoid eating your breakfast or lunch at the wheel. Even snacking could cost you up to £1000, plus 3 points on your licence.
So, there you have it. There are many more that we could go through, but that wouldn’t make for light bedtime reading. You can always go through the Road Traffic Act 1984 (RTA) or the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (CUR) if you have plenty of time to kill.
