This week, we share a stark warning to do with short-term rental cars and the insurance you take out with them.
We know, we know. There’s a lot you have to watch out for already when it comes to the world of car insurance. Especially when there are so many dodgy providers out there, or there is another brand-new scam doing the rounds, and you only just recovered from the last one.
This one is particularly relevant if you’re planning on hiring a car whilst you’re abroad, or even if you’re in the UK and on holiday.
You may have heard of a company called Budget, which specialises in short-term lets of… Well, pretty much anything. With the sister company ‘Jaunt’, they offer short-term insurance for cars. This is perfect for when you only need to hire a car for a few days whilst exploring the Cotswolds or the Lincolnshire Wolds, for example.
However, a recent customer has had some shady business going on. The unfortunate case saw the disgruntled customer being charged £500, for insurance, instead of the £110 they were initially quoted for. Every holiday goer’s nightmare.
They always get you with the ‘extras’ and ‘unexpected charges’. Sigh. For 10 days worth of insurance, £110 does seem too good to be true, but there are actually trusted providers out there who you can go with.
Apparently, this customer isn’t the only person to have experienced something similar. Our advice is to research the company you’re going with, especially if they have been suggested to use through the holiday company you’re booking a package with.
This is often how scams begin. They lure you in with unbelievably low prices through the insurance provider, allowing you to think all the hard work has been done for you.
Have you ever gone through something similar? Not quite the surprise at the end of the holiday people look forward to. Don’t fall into the trap like these poor customers! It takes only 3 minutes to fill out our form to fulfil all your insurance needs.
You can thank us for it later once you’re back from your holiday.
