62% of Drivers Make These Simple Car Insurance Errors

New research has just surfaced and it doesn’t look good. It claims that 62% of drivers are making errors that really hit them in the pocket.

What seems to be happening is that many motorists around the country are making small, almost insignificant errors on a daily basis, which they don’t even realise could make their car insurance not even worth the paper it is printed on. They might as well rip it up, if we are to believe the research.

Don’t Wear These On Your Feet

In other words, if you need your car insurance company to hand over the cash, but they find out you have been wearing inappropriate shoes for driving, then you might just find they start ignoring your calls.

Apparently you shouldn’t wear high heels or flip flops when behind the wheel, so make sure you get some decent shoes the next time you hit the roads.

Moving House? Call Your Car Insurance Company

Other errors uncovered by the research? It seems that 9% of drivers are hanging fluffy dice on the rear view mirror, and 16% change their address without informing the car insurance company, something which I’ve reported about on this blog before.

Another 8% admitted they probably underestimate the mileage driven each day, which could, in turn, lead to a car insurance company not paying out. Maybe pay per mile car insurance could be a better solution for some people? I’m not so sure, but you might want to give it a try.

Please Steal My Car…It’s Unlocked

The research also found out that 25% of UK car owners (which is around 10 million drivers) often park their car without locking it.

I’ve heard about people going back into the house when defrosting their windscreen…but to not lock their car at all? This is just pure madness if you ask me, and will result in your car insurance company not paying out if your car gets stolen.

Birmingham is the “unlocked car capital” it appears, with 35% of motorists there admitting they leave their cars unlocked on a regular basis. Not surprisingly, car insurance is among the most expensive in this part of the country as well.

It’s not surprising then to hear the Association of British Insurers, or ABI for short, say that around 43,000 car insurance claims are rejected each year.

In my opinion, a lot of these car insurance errors are simply due to the fact that members of the UK public are now busier than ever before, which means they don’t have the time to remember every small detail about what they should and shouldn’t do.

Of course, forgetting to lock your car door is something that every motorist should not be doing, no matter how busy…but wearing flip flops instead of the correct driving shoes? I’m sure that many people do it every day without a second thought.

I would advise every driver in the UK to at least take note of the errors they could be making, and then visit a car insurance comparison website to get really cheap quotes.
