The banking arm of one supermarket giant in the UK has begun to offer a discount car insurance deal to its customers, experts say.
Sainsbury’s Finance made the announcement recently, offering customers with Nectar cards as much as £293 in benefits and rewards if they take up a motor car insurance policy from the supermarket chain by 9 April. Customers taking advantage of the offer can receive 12 months’ worth of free breakdown cover (which includes free recovery service in a 10-mile radius of a garage and free labour for roadside repairs), double Nectar points on fuel and shopping for two years, and savings of as much as 15 per cent on their car insurance rates, while new customers who sign up for a policy today (7 February) will be eligible for an additional discount of five per cent, which would result in potentially saving as much as £341.
Sainsbury’s Finance head of motor car and home insurance, Ben Tyte, stressed the free breakdown assistance offered in the limited-time deal, remarking that this important feature could spell the difference between salvation and disaster, especially during the winter months as inclement weather sweeps across the country.
No one wants to be stranded at the roadside in the middle of the night on a cold, lonesome road if they break down, Mr Tyte said, without knowing that breakdown assistance is just a phone call away.
In related news, motorists that are considering having their cars fitted with winter tyres for better stability in wintry conditions can rest assured that their insurers will not classify this as a modification to their vehicles, provided the winter tyres in question match your vehicle’s specifications and are fitted properly by a trained professional.
