According to one car insurance comparison site, the safest drivers in the UK have been recently revealed – and the results may be shocking.
It seems the strange little Reliant Robin is owned by some of the safest of Britain’s drivers, according to the discount car insurance website. Despite its precarious three-wheeled balancing act, the reputation of the queer little car to roll over may be undeserved.
Online car insurance website Confused.com revealed the results of its recent accident survey, finding that not even one out of every hundred Reliant owners had had any involvement in a road traffic accident over the past five years. Meanwhile Lexus drivers, who were rated as having the most crashes, had an accident rate ten times higher than Reliant drivers.
The website recently conducted an analysis of seven million online car insurance quotes that had been requested over the past year. Then, they analysed 500,000 road traffic accident claims made by motorists who had been involved in an accident.
Confused.com discovered that out of the 1,174 Reliant owners who had used the website, only 11 of them made any crash damage claims – which works out to only 0.9 per cent. Gareth Kloet, car insurance head for the online provider, remarked that those who own the niche car that is the Reliant Robin know how to handle a three-wheeler and look after the quirky little cars.
Peter Huggins, treasure of the Reliant Owners Club, commented that many Robin owners take them to shows and keep them as classic cars. This leads Reliant owners to be more alert and drive them with more care than a normal, modern motor vehicle.
