total rubbish. car insurance companies are MILKING motorists! vehicle insurance is a LEGAL REQUIREMENT and therefore a GUARANTEED income! strange how a £200,000 house costs HALF the amount to insure than my diesel ford focus estate does, yet i NEED a car that size so CANT buy a smaller car (prms, dogs, baby equipment etc wont fit in anything smaller!)

its not nearly extortion, it IS extortsion! my lowest quote for insurance is over £4,400! I am male, 17 and looking to go to university, I am currently in college and working 2 part time jobs, 1 as a lifeguard and 1 as a first aider for a private ambulance company! (very highly demanding jobs requiring me to be very mature!) and yet my lowest quote is well over 3/4 of my annual pay! fair? i think not, some sort of cap needs to be put on insurance. (p.s. the car that i was quoted over £4000 for was a 98 plate ford fiesta!)

added to this in meantime my son lost his mobile phone with the photos of two cars, but insurance company came back and say that they were not clear enough photos. i would have thought photos could be made bigger to highlight this. add to previous message please.

my son in his early 30s is a very good and careful driver. last summmer he was driving towards the traffic lights in suburbia leeds when the driver in front pulled up abruptly. because he was carefully driving it amounted to him only touching the rear of car in front. my son took photos of both cars to show no damage but he gave his insurance details to other party nonetheless. he was rather silly not looking for a witness but that is that. both parties parted amicably and he thought that was the end of the matter, but he reported it to his insurance and sent in photos from his mobile. some time later he hears from his insurance that other party are claiming damages to their car (which there were no damages), for car hire and whip lash. last week he finds out from his insurance that other party have been paid out so far before they go on to seek costs for whip lash. my son had organised to take his car to dealer last monday to check out there was no damage to his car but too late, as company paid out. added to this his insurance has doubled and he has lost all his no claims.he is disputing this further with insurance company and he is writing to ombudsman. i feel he has been too laid back and trusting.
it is a disgrace that dishonest people are able to get away with this and it needs to be stopped. have you any suggestions?

Thank you

the motor insurance companies in the Uk are a complete joke, its a rip off , they make up prices as they see fit and if they dont want to pay out they wont! remember alot of these insurance companies are owned by banks, which invest in britain so the goverment will not do anything about it. the current insurance contract law needs reform i doute it will ever anytime soon. the current prices are pricing all drivers off the road not just the young and new drivers! Remember the consumer has power if you do not buy it! they will lose money! and the price will go down! but if you keep buying it the price will keep going up, simple supply and demand!!

insurance premium increases are forcing taxi drivers out of business. price hikes are as high as 40% during 2010/11. its caused mostly by compensation claim rates. the compensation culture is to blame. i know a taxi driver who had to quit cause his premium was £4500 for the year . he was in an incident where a car wing mirror was clipped thats all. yet he still has passengers claiming for whiplash! he still is expected to pay the premium while it is been investigated.

We have just had words with M & S Car Insurance regarding their unfair policy of charging us over £40 more to renew our cover with them. It seems loyalty counts for nothing so we cancelled our renewal. Hours later their website allowed us to take out cover as new customers at the discounted rate!
As M & S are offering perhaps the lowest prices around I am sure their loyal customers will like this tip.

The Insurance companies are criminals in the first degree. They will use any excuse to raise the cost of insurance. Where young drivers are concerned they are pricing them out of the market. However, that will not stop youngsters from driving. As sure as they look forward to their first beer or their first kiss etc they look forward to being able to drive and the fear is that not being able to afford insurance will mean loads of kids driving uninsured. The police won't be able to stop it they do not have the resources. So come on which company is going to be bold and break the cartel and bring the prices down.
